Jonah Bulus (b.1987) is an abstract painter from Askira, Borno State, Nigeria. A
Fine Art graduate of the prestigious Zaria Art School (2017), his paintings are
evocative of the diverse landscape of North-Eastern Nigeria, as well his
sentiments around human vulnerability, having lived in the city of Maiduguri,
during a period of constant attacks by the insurgent group Boko Haram.
Bulus’ employment of gestural strokes and drip technique, are metaphors for
his psyche, particularly the way it seeks to strike a fine balance between
seemingly conflicting elements, such as turmoil and the healing virtues of the
natural world.
