In Echoes of the Wind, Deborah Segun continues her exploration of the human condition through distilled forms, fluid geometry, and quiet introspection. This new body of work comprising ten acrylic paintings on canvas and ten intimate works on paper capture the unseen movement of emotion and memory, as if translating the invisible rhythms of air into form and color.

Segun’s compositions are grounded in the body yet untethered from realism. Curved planes of pigment overlap like murmurs, their edges softened by translucence and the passage of gesture. In the paper works, she embraces the immediacy of scale: faces and fragments appear mid-thought, half-seen, dissolving into chromatic fields that pulse with internal life. The canvases; each 40 by 40 centimeters, extend these meditations into space, their textured surfaces echoing both the tactility of breath and the contour of touch.

Throughout, Segun’s palette hums in gradients of ochre, teal, violet, and sienna tones that evoke the shifting quality of light at dawn or dusk. There is serenity here, but also restlessness; an acknowledgment that identity, like wind, is both constant and changing. In capturing this duality, Segun situates her practice in a lineage of contemporary figuration that is not about likeness, but about sensing the slow translation of inner movement into stillness.

Echoes of the Wind invites viewers to listen closely: to the silence between gestures, to the subtle vibration of color, and to the quiet, enduring echo of being.
